Project Overview
This Gilbert master bathroom remodel underwent a complete transformation, converting an outdated tub-and-shower combo into a spacious walk-in shower with a dedicated pop-up drying area. The project showcases how thoughtful design decisions—from a custom pony wall with a mounted plumbing valve to coordinated wood plank tile flowing through the bedroom, bathroom, and closet—can completely redefine a space’s functionality and visual impact. During the initial Virtual Showroom 3D design consultation, the homeowners were able to see photo-realistic renderings of the finished space before construction started, giving them confidence in every material and layout decision.
The tub-to-shower conversion opened up the bathroom dramatically, replacing the underused bathtub with a large walk-in shower designed for daily convenience. A custom-built pony wall serves double duty as both a shower partition and a mounting surface for the plumbing valve, creating a clean, intentional look that eliminates the need for valve placement on the main shower walls. The shower walls feature 12×24 large-format tile in a straight-lay pattern for a modern, linear aesthetic, while the shower pan showcases flat pebble stone in a warm blend that adds natural texture and provides excellent traction underfoot.
In the vanity area, we installed a maple cabinet in a blondie color stain topped with off-white quartz countertops featuring light veining—a combination that brings warmth and brightness to the space. A countertop tower installed on top of the quartz provides additional storage without sacrificing counter space. We split the existing single light into two separate fixtures, one centered above each sink, and installed two individual mirrors aligned with the sinks for a balanced, symmetrical look. Strategic lighting additions above the shower and new exhaust fans round out the functional upgrades, while Venetian bronze and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures throughout give the bathroom a rich, cohesive finish. Why This Design Works for Gilbert Homeowners
Tub-to-shower conversions remain one of the most popular bathroom upgrades throughout Gilbert and the East Valley, and this project demonstrates why. By removing the underused bathtub and building a large walk-in shower with a dedicated drying area, we gave the homeowners the shower they actually use every day in the space they already had. The pop-up drying area adds a functional zone that’s perfect for toweling off without dripping water across the bathroom floor—a practical detail that makes a real difference in daily routines.
The pony wall is a design element we love for its versatility. Mounting the plumbing valve directly on the pony wall keeps the main shower walls clean and uninterrupted, allowing the large-format tile to make its full visual impact. The pony wall also creates a natural separation between the shower and the rest of the bathroom without closing off the space. It’s a smart solution that adds architectural interest while solving a practical plumbing challenge.
Choosing flat pebble stone for the shower pan in a warm blend creates a beautiful contrast against the clean lines of the 12×24 wall tile. The pebble stone provides natural texture and excellent traction on the shower floor, while the warm tones complement the maple vanity and bronze fixtures throughout the space. The straight-lay pattern on the shower walls delivers a modern, linear look that lets the tile’s surface and color take center stage—a timeless choice that avoids trendy patterns while maintaining contemporary appeal.
Extending wood plank tile flooring from the bathroom through the bedroom and closet creates a seamless visual flow that makes the entire suite feel cohesive and intentional. This continuity eliminates awkward flooring transitions and makes each space feel larger. Wood plank tile offers the warmth and appearance of hardwood with the durability and water resistance that Arizona bathrooms demand—an ideal choice for Gilbert’s climate and lifestyle.
The vanity area transformation—splitting one overhead light into two fixtures centered above individual sinks with matching mirrors—is a detail that elevates the entire space. Proper lighting centered on each sink eliminates shadows and creates balanced illumination for daily grooming, while individual mirrors give each user their own dedicated station. The countertop tower on the quartz surface provides vertical storage without cluttering the countertops, keeping the space organized and functional.
