Chandler Bathroom Remodel – Demo Day 3 Update

Hi, it’s Nick Kayser with Mustache Approved Remodeling, back out here in Chandler, Arizona at our friends John and Ryan’s home. We’re on Demo Day #3 of their master bathroom remodel, and this space already looks completely different from when we started.

In this update, I’ll walk you through what we’ve removed so far, how we’re using the existing structure to our advantage, and what’s next as we convert this old sunken tub setup into a modern curbless walk-in shower.

🔨 Demo Progress So Far

✔️ Carpet removed
All of the old carpet in and around the bathroom area has been removed to make way for new, more durable and water-friendly flooring.

✔️ Center wall removed
The dividing wall that used to sit in the middle of the bathroom is gone. Taking this out immediately opened up the space and set the stage for a brighter, more open layout.

✔️ Old vanity removed
The existing vanity has been demoed, and the area is now ready for framing, plumbing, and electrical adjustments to support the new layout and storage design.

✔️ Sunken tub removed
This bathroom originally had a sunken tub. We’ve demoed the tub and exposed the recessed section of the slab. Instead of being a problem, this actually gives us a head start on the curbless shower conversion.

🚿 Converting to a Curbless Walk-In Shower

One of the biggest goals on this project is to create a true curbless walk-in shower. Because the original tub was already sunken into the floor, we’re able to use that recessed area to get the correct elevation for proper drainage and a smooth, no-step entry.

On many projects, we have to jackhammer out the slab to lower the shower pan. Here, we simply trimmed back the edge to hit the right height. That saves time, reduces dust, and gives the homeowners a cleaner, more efficient build.

This shower will eventually include:

  • S.W.A.N. Plan waterproofing system
  • Large-format tile installation
  • A fixed glass panel at the pony wall
  • A clean, modern, curbless design

🧱 Framing, Plumbing & Electrical Updates

With demo mostly wrapped up, we’re moving into the phase that builds the structure for the finished look.

✔️ Pony wall framing
We’re framing two pony walls — one near the vanity and one at the shower area. These add shape, privacy, and an anchor point for the future glass panel.

✔️ Electrical rerouting
The existing switches, outlets, and lighting are being rerouted to match the new layout. We’re also prepping for updated lighting to brighten and modernize the space.

✔️ Plumbing adjustments
Shower plumbing is being positioned to align perfectly with the new fixture layout and curbless entry design.
